Love the ttyl sign off in a conversation about efficiency in language.
Great points in here.
Mostly I feel like you’re calling stickers the soylent of communication, which is funny cause I’m super excited about soylent.
But I actually disagree. To a computer, a coffee cup emoji is one unicode pointer and typing (in english) coffee is six, so the emoji is more efficient, but one of the many reasons I love stickers (different than emoji) is exactly because of the nuance. Whether it’s an apology, a flirt or a frustration, brilliant artists can often capture in a simple image what I can’t nail in 60 words. Stickers done right NAIL subtlety, both in their detail and their ability to visually reference known commonalities. (Batman/Robin handshake sticker has very different implications Batman/Superman, never mind a Churchill/Stalin.)
